maira kalman does ps 47

I found this video burried in my "to post" folder! It's a shame that it took so long to post. Anyway...

As part of a much larger Robin Hood Foundation initiative, artist (and personal favorite) Maira Kalman contributed a wonderful installation to the redesigned the library at P.S. 47. The final "natural history museum-inspired" product is wonderful to say the very least.

Alongside many others throughout the city's low-income neighborhoods, this library was designed by Richard H. Lewis. Even better - every library project includes a collaboration with a New York-based artist, facilitated by Pentagram.

I'm such a history nerd, of course I would think this is the coolest thing ever...

A partnership with Google, History Pin is a giant map with thousands of pin-pointed locations
matched with users' own old photographs (sometimes in streetview!)

So if you ever wondered what your street looked like back in "the day,"
this is the way to find out!  Pretty cool, huh?
